Book of the week "Marty Barbany's heritage" by Chufo Llorens

I'm sure not many of you have heard about this book or this author,i came across it after searching books with the storyline in or about Barcelona,and this one caught my attention..

Chufo Llorens

..is a spanish writer,born in Barcelona in 1933,specialized in historical novels.Unfortunately there isn't much info about him, just that he also wrote "Te dare la tierra" a book sold in  150.000 copies...

Book of the week: El silencio de Gaudi by Juan David Morgan

Today i came across this book,about Gaudi,the architect i wrote on the blog about a few days back,have not read it yet,i just order it online,hope i will get it very soon..ps: the best part about this thriller is that it is really cheap,like 2 euros and it has 384 pages..don't ask me why,because the plot of the book is very catchy!

..Juan David Morgan G. is a transcendental writer in the Panamanian literature. His career as a writer was initiated in 1992 under the pseudonym Jorge Thomas, with his first novel, “Fugitivos del Paisaje” (the Wales-Panama saga of a family). His second book, was the historical novel “Cicatrices inútiles, 1994 (about the U.S. invasion to Panama in 1989); “Entre el cielo y la Tierra”, 1996 (about Monsignor Jovane, a man “between heaven and earth”);  “Con Ardientes Fulgores de Gloria”, 1999  (the independence of Panama from Colombia and the negotiations U.S.-Panama for the construction of the Canal). In 2001 he published “La rebelión de los poetas y otros cuentos” (shorts stories).   “El veredicto” (about the role of the French negotiator, Bunau-Varilla, in the negotiations for the construction of the Panama Canal), was written by Morgan and Ernesto Endara, also an outstanding Panamanian writer.  Another historical novel was published under his real name: “El caballo de oro”, 2005 (the construction of the transisthmian railway in Panama). “¡Arde Panamá”  the Colombian edition of the novel “Con ardientes fulgores de gloria”, was published under Morgan’s real name in 2003.  The most recent work of Juan David Morgan is “El silencio de Gaudí”, 2007 (a thriller about Gaudí).

Tacerea lui Gaudi

Parintele iezuit Manuel Otano, care lucreaza pentru Vatican, are sarcina de a inspecta progresele facute la construirea Lacasului Purificator al Sfintei Familii. Antoni Gaudí's glorious vision

..a.k.a. God's Architect, Antoni Gaudí (born on June 25, 1852), learned architecture at a young age and attended school in Barcelona, the city that would become home to most of his great works. Gaudí was part of the Catalan Modernista movement, eventually transcending it with his nature-based organic style. Gaudí died on June 10, 1926.

Early Years

Antoni Gaudí was born in Catalonia on the Mediterranean coast of Spain in 1852. He showed an early interest in architecture, and in 1869 or 1870 he went to study in Barcelona, Spain’s most modern city at the time. After his studies were interrupted by military service, Gaudí graduated from the Provincial School of Architecture in 1878.

Upon graduation, Gaudí initially worked in the artistic vein of his Victorian predecessors, but he soon developed his own style, composing his works with juxtapositions of geometric masses and animating the surfaces with patterned brick or stone, bright ceramic tiles and floral or reptilian metalwork. The salamander in Park Güell, for instance, is representative of Gaudí’s work.

During his early period, at the Paris World's Fair of 1878, Gaudí displayed a showcase he had produced, which impressed one patron enough to lead to Gaudí’s working on the Güell Estate and Güell Palace, among others. In 1883, Gaudí was charged with the construction of a Barcelona cathedral called Basilica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia (Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family). The plans had been drawn up earlier, and construction had already begun, but Gaudí completely changed the design, stamping it with his own distinctive style.

The Mature Artist

After 1902, Antoni Gaudí’s designs began to defy conventional stylistic classification, and he created a type of structure known as equilibrated—that is, it could stand on its own without internal bracing, external buttressing, etc. The primary functional elements of this system were columns that tilted to employ diagonal thrusts and lightweight tile vaults. Notably, Gaudí used his equilibrated system to construct two Barcelona apartment buildings: the Casa Batlló (1904–06) and the Casa Milà (1905–10), whose floors were structured like clusters of tile lily pads. Both projects are considered to be characteristic of Gaudí’s style.

Personal life 

Gaudí devoted his life entirely to his profession, remaining single. He is only known to have been attracted to one woman—Josefa Moreu, teacher at the Mataró Cooperative, in 1884—but this was not reciprocated.Thereafter Gaudí took refuge in the profound spiritual peace his Catholic faith offered him. Gaudí is often depicted as unsociable and unpleasant, a man of gruff reactions and arrogant gestures. However, those who were close to him described him as friendly and polite, pleasant to talk to and faithful to friends.

Gaudí’s personal appearance—Nordic features, blond hair and blue eyes—changed radically over the course of time. As a young man, he dressed like a dandy in costly suits, sporting well-groomed hair and beard, indulging gourmet taste, making frequent visits to the theatre and the opera and visiting his project sites in a horse carriage. The older Gaudí ate frugally, dressed in old, worn-out suits, and neglected his appearance to the extent that sometimes he was taken for a beggar, such as after the accident that caused his death.
Death

Gaudí’s funeral (12 June 1926)
On 7 June 1926, Gaudí was taking his daily walk to the Sant Felip Neri church for his habitual prayer and confession. While walking along the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes between Girona and Bailén streets, he was struck by a passing tram and lost consciousness.[48] Assumed to be a beggar because of his lack of identity documents and shabby clothing, the unconscious Gaudí did not receive immediate aid. Eventually a police officer transported him in a taxi to the Santa Creu Hospital, where he received rudimentary care.[49] By the time that the chaplain of the Sagrada Família, Mosén Gil Parés, recognised him on the following day, Gaudí's condition had deteriorated too severely to benefit from additional treatment. Gaudí died on 10 June 1926 at the age of 73 and was buried two days later. A large crowd gathered to bid farewell to him in the chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the crypt of the Sagrada Família. His gravestone bears this inscription:

Bayern vs Barcelona post match review

FC Bayern München 4-0 FC Barcelona
Thomas Müller scored twice as Bayern recorded the biggest victory in a UEFA Champions League semi-final game and closed in on a third final in four years.
FC Bayern München made giant strides towards a third UEFA Champions League final in four seasons with a memorable first-leg victory against FC Barcelona.


Barcelona didn't count in the offensive,Tito only did 1 change in the entire game,there was a big lack of ideas on barca's bench,and that is proven by the result and the poor game.Messi and Pedro were unrecognizable in the entire 90 minutes.
The score could have been bigger if the ref saw the 3 or 4 handballs in the penalty area,but as a compensation,Bayern had 1 goal from an offside position,and one after T. Muller intentionally obstructed Jordi Alba. 

Congrats to all Bayern fans,hopfully Barcelona will try a "remontada" on camp nou,but that will be almoust imposible.

Book of the week : "Homage to Catalonia" by George Orwell

For this week choice of book of the week i picked my latest aquisition "Homage to Catalonia",first of all because it's about Catalonia and second of all because it is written by George Orwell also known for his political satir "Animal farm" or "1984" where he talks about a future political view of London,and he creates the term Big Brother as a president,who has absolut control.

Eric Arthur Blair best known as his pen name George Orwell was an english nouvelist and journalist.His work is marked by clarity, intelligence and wit, awareness of social injustice, opposition to totalitarianism, and commitment to democratic socialism.

                             

Homage to Catalonia

is political journalist and novelist George Orwell's personal account of his experiences and observations in the Spanish Civil War.In 1936 Orwell went to Spain to report on the Civil War and instead joined the fight against the Fascists. This famous account describes the war and Orwell’s experiences.

Pentru aceasta saptamana,alegerea mea pentru cartea saptamanii este una din ultimele mele achizitii "Omagiu pentru Catalunia", în primul rând pentru că este vorba despre Catalonia și în al doilea rând, pentru că este scrisa de George Orwell, cunoscut pentru "Ferma animalelor",satira sa politica, sau "1984 " în care el vorbește despre o viziune politică din viitor ,care se petrece in Londra, el fiind creatorul conceptului de "fratele cel mare"ca un președinte, care are controlul absolut.

As we expected Tito had problems with his central defenders,and unfortunately Barca lost another player,Adriano,but gained one ,and here i'm talking about young Bartra who had a good game.My regret is that i didn't see Alexis Sanchez play  because he had a good game in La Liga, against Mallorca,and managed to score a double.
While we had the possision,PSG had the chances,but fortunately we closed the game at 1-1,and after a confuzing gameplay in the last 10 minutes,barca was qualified for the semifinals.Man of the match was Andres Iniesta who did his job,as always,and had the hottest rally in the game,too bad he didn't score.

As a bonus Barcelona has a new record beeing the first team ever who qualifies 6 consecutives time in the Champion's League semifinals.

What do you think about the semifinals? i think it will prabably be Spain vs Germany, probably Barcelona vs Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich because let's face it everyone want's to see EL CLASICO in the CL final.




Barca a avut probleme mari aseară împotriva PSG-ului, dar Messi ne-a arătat încă o dată de ce este cel mai bun jucator din lume.

Așa cum ne-am așteptat Tito a avut probleme cu apărătorii săi centrali, și din păcate a pierdut un alt jucător, Adriano, dar am câștigat unul, și aici mă refer la tanarul Bartra care a facut un meci bun.Regretul meu este ca nu l-am văzut pe Alexis Sanchez jucand pentru că el a avut un meci bun în La Liga, împotriva Mallorcai, și a reușit să înscrie o dublă.
In timp ce noi am avut posesia, PSG a avut șansele mari, dar din fericire am închis jocul la 1-1, iar după un joc confuz în ultimele 10 minute, Barca a fost calificata in semifinale.
Omul meciului a fost Andres Iniesta, care a facut un meci bun, ca întotdeauna, și a avut cea mai frumoasa faza din joc, pacat ca nu a reusit sa si marcheze.
Ca un bonus Barca a doborat un nou record fiind prima echipa care se califica de 6 ori consecutiv in semifinalele CL.

Ce parere aveti de semifinale? eu ma astept la 2 dueluri Spania vs Germania,probabil Barcelona vs Borussia si Real vs Bayern,deoarece daca e sa fim sinceri si realisti toata lumea isi doreste in finala un EL CLASICO.

BIG GAME today for all Barca fans,after a 2-2 draw in the first match of the quarter-finals against the french team PSG. Even if everyone is thinking of a easy victory for the catalans,it will be a close and hard game,because all of the injuries in the defensive compartment ,and because "the WORLD PLAYER of the Year" is recovering from a hamstring strain picked up in Paris last week,so Messi will be for sure on the bench but it is probably for Tito to not start him in the first 11,to don't force a bigger injury.
Barca proved they could survive without him by trashing Real Mallorca 5-0 on Saturday.
Despite fielding a weakened side,the leaders ran riot at the Nou Camp with a hat-trick from Fabregas and 2 from Alexis Sanchez but PSG are a tougher team than La Liga's basement side.
Favorites Barcelona,are chasing a fourth champions league crown in eight seasons.

Barca's manager,Vilanova, will have to improvise with the first 11,after the massive loss of players in the first leg,while Messi's replacement seems to be an easier one,because there are plenty of choices in the attack: Cesc,Pedro,Villa,Sanchez,Tello..while in the defensive area there seems to be a big problem with Mascherano's loss for the rest of the season,and Puyol still at the infirmary,there are some chances to see Bousquets as a Central Defender with Pique on his right,and as a CDM we should probably see Song,who had some good games and seems to be the right choice,but there are still some youngsters on the bench like Montoya or Bartra but i don't know if they are ready to play in such a high stake match.

Hopefully tonight the only thing that we'll see on the pitch will be the football players and an amazing show between two teams with 2 different mentalities,one that grows the best players in the world,and one that tries to buy them,and UEFA and the referee will be impartial not like in the first game where, the first goal of PSG was scored by a suspended(yet forgiven) player,from an offside position.

MARE MECI astăzi pentru toti fanii Barcelonei, după o remiză 2-2 in primul meci din sferturile de finala contra echipei franceze PSG . Chiar dacă toată lumea se gândește la o victorie usoara pentru catalani, acesta va fi un meci echilibrat și greu,datorita tuturor accidentarilor din compartimentul defensiv,și pentru că cel mai bun jucător din lume nu si-a revenit complet dupa ce a suferit o accidentare la coapsa dreapta la Paris săptămâna trecută, astfel încât Messi va fi aproape sigur pe banca de rezerve, dar cel mai probabil Tito nu va începe cu acesta în primul 11​​,pentru a nu face un prejudiciu mai mare prin fortarea acestuia.

Barca a dovedit ca ar putea supravietui fara el in meciul cu Real Mallorca 5-0 pe care la jucat sâmbătă in campionat.În ciuda unui joc cu multi menajati pe Camp Nou,Fabregas cu un hat-trick si Sanchez cu o dubla
